Video of the Day: Small SinsRobin Hilton
August 15, 2007
On September 25th you’ll be able to get what will be one of the year’s best albums: Mood Swings by the Toronto band Small Sins. It’s a smart collection of electro, art-pop tunes with infectious beats and melodies, reflective themes and an overall mood that, as the title might imply, swings from introspective melancholy to more upbeat playfulness. The vocals are the real standout. Frontman and principal songwriter Thomas D’Arcy has the voice of a smoky crooner from another planet. It’s a distinctive and unexpected sound made richer by brilliantly layered, triad harmonies. Though the album isn’t out yet, you can hear what will be the second track of the CD in this live performance shot last year at Easy Street Records in Seattle. It’s called “Morning Face.” (They’re also previewing a stream of the their MySpace page).
